There's nothing like the satisfaction of pulling off a good prank - and also nothing like the head hanging that follows being the subject of punking. Tommy Ton had to take back the rumours he promoted a few days ago when he realised that Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci was feeding him faulty information - on purpose.
Ton, the man behind the style blog Jak & Jil, tweeted this vague message recently: “I received some news tonight that is going to SHAKE the fashion world in the next two days. CRAZY!!!!" This led the fashion crowd to revive the rumour - yes, again - that Alber Elbaz would be replacing Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. When it got to the point that Chanel reps had to step in my saying "replacing him is not an issue," things were sufficiently out of hand.
Still, Ton kept up his case with tweets like this one: “You think u know but u have NO idea. Sorry, it isn't my place to announce this news. You'll know exactly what I'm talking about soon..” Or this: "view the Style.com Paris videos and see if you can figure it out. Tehehehe :p" But Ton wasn't laughing so hard when he had to announce that Tisci had successfully duped him. Now, Ton's changed his talk: “Guessing game is over. My source and I are the victim of a good prank played by Mr. Tisci himself. He got us good :(“
